The JEE Main application form is released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and candidates must visit the official website to download and fill out the form. For 2023, the JEE Main application form should be filled in two stages, as the entrance exam will be conducted in 2 sessions, i.e., the first session in January and the second session in April.

For the first session of JEE Main 2023, the registration process started on 15th December 2022. Candidates must strictly follow the deadline for filling out the online application form as mentioned in the official notification, as the exam authority will not entertain requests after submission. The governing body usually announces the important dates for JEE Main 2023 registration. The authority also informs when the exam will be conducted. Students can check all the important dates related to the examination from the table mentioned below.

Meanwhile, candidates can check how to fill out the JEE Main 2023 application form carefully, and they should avoid making mistakes. They have to give details like their name, contact number, and category and submit scanned copies of documents as well to complete the application process successfully. As per the guidelines set by the exam conducting authority, only one JEE Main application form is provided per student. The registration will be cancelled if more than one application form is submitted per student. Let us learn more about the whole process and the requirements below.

Important Notice for 2023 Registration

I. In the first session, only Session 1 will be visible, and candidates can opt for that. In the next session, Session 2 will be visible, and the candidates can opt for that session. The application window for Session 2 will be re-opened later on. Examination for Session 2 will be the last examination for the JEE (Main) – 2023. A candidate can apply for Session 1 and pay the exam fee for Session 1 in the given duration. If a candidate wishes to apply for Session 2, they have to apply again when the window will be reopened after Session 1 and pay the examination fee for Session 2 during that period.

II. The fee can be submitted only online through net banking, Credit Card or Debit Card, UPI or Paytm services. Processing charges and GST, as applicable, are chargeable to the candidate (in addition to the examination fee) by the concerned bank/payment gateway integrator. The fee, once paid, will not be refunded. However, it can be taken forward to another session of JEE (Main) 2023. Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate for the same session(s) will not be accepted at any cost.

III. Candidates who apply for more than one session of examination (June/July) may change their choice of cities in the correction window, which will be opened in due course under intimation to them through a public notice for each session.

IV. The confirmation page of the online application form will be generated only after successful fee payment by the candidate. In case the confirmation page is not generated after payment of the fee, then the candidate may have to approach the concerned bank/payment gateway to ensure the successful payment or to obtain the refund.

The following steps should be followed to fill out and submit the application form successfully:

Step 1: JEE Main Registration

The link to JEE Main registration page is usually available as soon as the registration window gets activated on the official website (jeemain.nta.nic.in)of the JEE Main. On the registration page of JEE Main, the following details of the applicant must be entered carefully: Nationality, Identification Type, State, Name of the Student, Date of Birth and Gender of the Applicant. After filling in all the above-mentioned details, enter the security pin and click on the submit button.

Another important step to note here is, during the registration for the online application form, candidates have to note down the system-generated application number. Then, the candidate should also create a PASSWORD and choose Security Question and enter their desired answer.

After the successful submission of the personal details, an application number is generated, and it will be used to complete the remaining steps of the application form. It will also be required for all future reference/correspondence. This application number will also be used/referred for both sessions of JEE Main 2023. For subsequent logins, the candidate will be able to log in directly with the respective system-generated application number and created password.

Step 2: Filling Out the JEE Main Application Form

After successful registration, students will be redirected to the JEE Main application page, where the following details have to be entered:

Exam-related Details:

  • In this section, the information related to the medium of question paper, mode of examination and the course for which they are applying is to be provided.
  • Students appearing for the offline mode of examination could opt for 4 centres according to their preferences, whereas for appearing in the online mode of examination, the applicant could opt for only one centre.

Personal Details of Applicant:

  • This section requires the applicant to fill in personal information like parents’ name, name of the candidate, nationality, state of eligibility, date of birth, category, gender, etc.
  • It is mandatory for candidates to enter their Aadhaar number, place of residence and mailing address.

Academic Details:

  • In this section, all the details related to the qualifying examination, like the school name, school address, Class 10 and Class 12 passing year, etc., are to be provided.
  • Students appearing for the Class 12 board exams also have to enter the details of their qualifying examination.

Address Details of the Applicants:

  • In this section, applicants need to provide their complete address, mobile number, pin code, state, country, email address, etc.

Guardian’s Details:

  • In this section, all the details of the guardians and parents, like occupation, qualification, annual income details, etc., are required.

Step 3: Uploading Scanned Documents

The applicants now will need to upload the scanned images of their signature and recently clicked passport-sized photograph with the following specifications:

The signature of the applicant should be clearly visible, and it should match the signature of the applicant in Class 10 and Class 12 certificates. The photograph of the applicant should be black and white or coloured, along with clear contrast. The photograph must have the applicant’s name and the date of clicking. Polaroid photographs or photographs with caps or goggles are not acceptable.

Scanned copies of the PwD and category certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc.) are also accepted, and they should be in PDF format between 50kb to 300kb (clearly legible).

After uploading the scanned documents, the applicants can review their application form by clicking on the review button. After making all the changes, the applicants could proceed with the payment options.

Step 4: Payment of JEE Main Application Fee

The final step is the payment of the fees. To make the payment, the applicants must submit the details of their credit or debit card, followed by clicking the submit button. Application or registration fees for JEE Main form can also be paid through e-challan, UPI or net banking. Processing charges and GST, as applicable, are chargeable to the candidate (in addition to the examination fee) by the concerned bank/payment gateway integrator.

Step 5: Take a Print Out of the Confirmation Page

After the payment of application fees, the candidates can download and take a printout of the acknowledgment or confirmation page for future reference. If applicants have made an error while filling out the JEE Main form, the applicants are allowed to correct their mistakes online. However, the applicants are not allowed to change their mode of examination from online to offline mode, except that they would be allowed to change all other details.

In case the confirmation page is not generated after payment of the fee, then the candidate may have to approach the concerned bank/payment gateway (in the helpline number and e-mail given in the Information Bulletin) to ensure the successful payment or to obtain the refund of duplicate/multiple payments].

The conducting body normally initiates the correction process of JEE Main online application on their official website. The applicants can then edit their personal data or any incorrect and incomplete information in their application forms on the official link jeemain.nic.in. The applicants can even upload fresh images if the previously uploaded images have an evident issue.

Important Instructions for the Correction Process

Any changes in the application form can be made only once; therefore, the applicants must follow all the guidelines carefully before updating their JEE Main application forms. The applicants, however, cannot change their mode of examination from online to offline mode of examination. The applicants must ensure that all the information updated is as per the guidelines prescribed to avoid rejections of their updated application forms.

The exam authority will announce the dates to make changes to the application form. The applicants need to pay an additional fee for making corrections to their application forms. The payment can be made online through debit cards, credit cards or e-wallets and offline through e-challans at Canara, Syndicate, and ICICI banks within the mentioned time frame.

Things Candidates Should Keep Ready Before Filling Out the Form

There are certain things that candidates need to do or rather keep some documents ready before filling out the JEE Main online application form. Some of them include:

  • PC with a good internet connection.
  • Details of qualification.
  • Scanned copy of passport photograph. It has to be clear in JPG/JPEG format, and the image size has to be between 10 kB –200 kB.
  • Digital copy of the candidate’s signature in JPG/JPEG format with an image size between 4 kB – 30 kB.
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS etc.), and the file size should be 50 kB to 300 kB.
  • PwD certificate (file size: 50 kB to 300 kB) in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Working e-mail ID.
  • Valid mobile number.
  • A printer to print the confirmation page.

Important Notice for JEE Main 2023 Candidates of Tamil Nadu State Board

Few representations have been received from the Tamil Nadu State Board candidates who passed their Class 10 examination in 2021. Due to the COVID outbreak, conducted no examination for the 2021 Class 10. Accordingly, given no marks on the mark sheet, and ‘pass’ is printed in all subjects. Hence, it has thus been decided by NTA while filling up the online Application Form for JEE Main 2023 Session 1, when the candidate selects 2021 as the ‘Passing year’ with Tamil Nadu State Board of School Examination (Sec.) as ‘School Board’, the Result Mode field will be disabled, and the associated fields for Marks/CGPA will be invisible for Tamil Nadu State Board candidates who have passed their Class 10 in the year 2021.

Interestingly, this time, candidates can also download and install the SANDES application as a secondary channel to receive time-to-time notifications from the NTA. SANDES app can be downloaded and installed on a system-generated mobile device as follow:

  • Search for the “Sandes App” in the search bar.
  • It then displays the app in the Play Store.

About JEE Main
